Join us at dusk for a special guided Bat Walk through St James’ Garden, discovering some of the fascinating bats that make their home and feeding grounds in and around this historic green space.
As daylight fades, we’ll explore the Garden and listen for bat activity using bat-detecting equipment, learning more about these remarkable nocturnal mammals and the habitats they depend upon.
This is a free event, but places are strictly limited to 25 people, so advance booking is essential.
Meeting point: St James Road Gate, St James’ Garden
Please arrive: 7:30pm for a 7:40pm start
Finish: Approximately 9:00pm
Before you book
Under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Please book a place for every person attending, including children.
No dogs please.
Wear supportive/sturdy footwear and clothing suitable for the weather.
Layers are recommended as temperatures can fall after sunset.
Please bring a small torch if you have one.
You may wish to bring insect repellent.
The event takes place outdoors and includes walking through the Garden after dark.
Bat sightings cannot be guaranteed. Wildlife does its own thing!
WEATHER / CANCELLATION NOTICE
This event is weather dependent.
Bats are much less active during persistent heavy rain and strong winds, and these conditions can also make the Garden unsuitable for a public walk.
If heavy rain, high winds or other unsafe conditions are forecast, the event may be cancelled.
Where possible, a decision will be made in advance and everyone booked onto the walk will be contacted using the email address or telephone number supplied with their booking.
Please check your messages before travelling.
Places are limited to just 25 people. If you book and subsequently find that you cannot attend, please cancel your booking or contact us as soon as possible so that your place can be offered to somebody else.
There is no charge for cancelling.
