Cripes… This Was 2024! 🌿 #Throwback to a Brilliant Day in St James’ Garden

Sometimes it’s worth pausing, taking a breath, and looking back at the moments that quietly made a difference. And cripes… this was one of them.

#Throwback to 2024, when Shiverpool teamed up with the incredible volunteers of Friends of St James Garden and the ever-energetic GoodGym Liverpool crew for a truly memorable session in the historic heart of the city.

A Garden Full of Stories — and Hard Work

St James’ Garden is no ordinary green space. Nestled beneath the towering Anglican Cathedral, it’s a place layered with history, memory, and reflection, home to the striking Huskisson Memorial, Liverpool’s only natural spring and the resting place of tens of thousands of Liverpool’s great and good. It’s a beautifully unique space… but it needs care, attention, and a lot of hands.

That’s where this brilliant community came in.

Armed with spades, gloves, and unstoppable enthusiasm, volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in. What followed was one of those sessions where the transformation is visible almost immediately, pathways cleared, greenery tamed, and the space gently restored with respect and care.

Community in Action

There’s something special about days like this. It’s not just about the physical progress (though there was plenty of that!). It’s about people coming together, strangers becoming teammates, laughter ringing through the garden, and a shared sense of purpose driving every shovel in the soil.

The GoodGym Liverpool crew brought their signature energy, combining fitness with meaningful impact, while Friends of St James’ Garden guided the work with passion and deep knowledge of the site.

And Shiverpool? We were proud to be right there alongside them, not just telling Liverpool’s stories, but helping to preserve the spaces where those stories live.

Why It Matters

Places like St James’ Garden are living history. They deserve more than to be passed by, they deserve to be cared for, remembered, and appreciated.

Days like this remind us that heritage isn’t just something we talk about on tours… it’s something we actively protect, together.
